2009 Summer Flounder Information Update

The house Bill that was introduced by Congressman Frank Pallone of New Jersey, HR. 5425, died when the 110th Congress ended just before Christmas 2008. H.R. 5425 was was also called 'The Flexibility in Rebuilding American Fisheries Act of 2008. One of the important aspects of this bill was a relaxing of the 10 year rebuilding period for Summer Flounder Stocks. U.S. Representative Pallone has officially re-introduced legislation designed to promote both sustainable fisheries and healthy fishing communities. If approved in the House, The Flexibility in Rebuilding American Fisheries Act of 2009 would amend the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MSA) to include limited flexibility for fishery managers when setting annual limits on managed species including summer flounder.

I encourage fisherman to contact their state and federal representatives to seek their support of this new bill to amend the MSA. "This l3egislation is the best way to rebuild our fisheries without bankrupting tackle shops, party boat captains and commercial fisherman," Congressman Pallone said.

Please check out our Flounder regulation's page for more information regarding summer flounder regulations, and how you can easily contact our state & federal representatives, concerning this years regulations.*
